My first potatoes!

I was really worried as that container has been looking a little unhealthy lately (damn apocalyptic rain) but after pulling out the two tiniest potatoes (and still getting incredibly excited) I found a substantial potato salad’s worth of good sized spuds. Such a satisfying feeling.

Saw this snail nestled into a wall the other week and it made me smile.

My first beetroot harvest of the year! What a beast. It made a very tasty beetroot rosti.

I HAVE SHOOTS!

I was scared that the recent cold snap had killed off my ‘crops’ but today I was happy to discover that I do indeed have shoots. I’m going to plant my stripey Italian beetroot just as soon as the weather gets a little warmer. Oh, and my potatoes are chitting nicely….

My attempt at Urban Farming

After my (somewhat successful) attempt at growing beetroot last year, I have decided to be a little bit more ‘ambitious’ this year.

Mindful of my tendency to get a little carried away and bite off more than I can chew, I decided to only add another two crops to my (incredibly limited) gardening repertoire. I shall therefore be spending today sowing beetroot (two varieties - I was seduced by the amazing looking stripey beetroot) and perpetual spinach, and then chitting some potatoes (the Charlotte variety of course!).

As I’ve also vowed to cut down on my excessive consumption, I’m trying to re-purpose all the crap in my (rather small) garden to use as containers. Which is why my potatoes will soon be growing in an old, now superfluous, plastic recycling bin (my local council decided to replace them with large recycling wheelie bins).

Wish me luck!

Moonrise Kingdom - The new Wes Anderson film.

I am so unbelievably excited about this.

Andrew Salomone Machine Knitting a Bill Cosby Sweater

Having developed an electronic hack into an 80’s knitting machine, Andrew Salomone has made an homage to the king of patterned knitted jumpers - Bill Cosby.

Salomone created a design featuring Bill Cosby wearing a jumper of Bill Cosby, wearing a jumper of Bill Cosby.

Head to the KK Outlet from 2-22nd December to see how Salomone’s hacked knitting machine has been used to create alternative Christmas Jumpers in the truly inspired exhibition entitled Oh Come All Ye Hackers.

I’ve always considered taking my doodle-pattern to the next level and doing a stitched version but the intricate nature of the design always seemed a little daunting. But yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and just go for it. 7 hours and some minor RSI later this was the result. Maybe I’m mad but now I want to make another, larger version…

Spike Jonze - Mourir Aupres de Toi

A short film collaboration from the film-maker Spike Jonze and Olympia Le-Tan, maker of beautifully embroidered, vintage book cover inspired, clutch bags.

“The project apparently began when Jonze asked Le-Tan for a Catcher in the Rye embroidery to put on his wall. Le-Tan replied saying that she would make it, but only in return for a film. The result took over six months and 3,000 pieces of hand-cut felt to create.”

Set in a closed Parisian book shop, the characters on Le-Tan’s clutch bags come to life. It’s beautifully animated and beautifully rude. And features the voice and music of the ever talented Soko.
